It’s important for us to get to know each other. Typical icebreaker: What’s your favourite colour, (yes, I actually spell it that way)?
Mine is yellow.
I think that people are attracted to certain colours for a reason, so here’s mine.
Growing up my favourite colour changed quite frequently. It would go from blue, to green, red, brown.. You get the idea.
It wasn’t until I saw this movie A Shine of Rainbows that I had found what was truly my favourite colour.
The movie is set in 1950’s Ireland, and primarily sticks to a dull earthy tone colour palette, except for one character.
Maire is this free spirit, happy-go-lucky, upbeat and gorgeous woman who wears bright blues, yellows and reds. On the small island of Corrie just off the mainland, beautiful landscape and charming Irish folk immerses you to a different kind of reality. The film overall leaves you with how you can always see the positive in misread people, and unfortunate situations. That’s where I relate.
My experiences in meeting people have taught me so much. It’s not just taught me not to judge, but to expect a unique and complex story, this is called sonder.
Those experiences inspire me to look at the positives, and embrace each day whether it’s raining, snowing or sunny.
Although my wardrobe consists of gray, black, brown, and more gray, I’m an optimist. Also a morning person, I wake up early and look forward to life continuing on each day. I try not to judge a book by its cover, until I ask the question ‘what’s your story’?
So.
What’s your favourite colour, and why?
Glad we’re getting to know each other.
