To-Do in January in Cincinnati (When you do not have much time)

Zac and I have gotten engaged and you know what that means. Planning. So… since he has moved to Russia and I have moved into my parents house, we decided to have the wedding right where it all started. The Queen City.

Now I have lived here and Zac was not too far away in Dayton, Ohio. However, since we moved we relized more of what Cincinnati had to offer. While we both work as freelancers, we didn’t have full days to decidate to exploring. However we did have just enough time to run around the city for three days. This is how it went down.

1. Mall Time

Yes, we went to the giant mall in Kenwood, and we do not regret it. There is something about wandering around getting ideas for your wardrobe and your future home that is not a waste of your time. In this instance, we went to stores that we either wanted to try out or didn’t know they had physical stores. In this case, we went to Lush to learn more about their products, and test some of them to promote natural and organic products. As well as Casper, to find our future bed that fits our needs and to learn the best ways to set up the perfect sleep space.

2. Secret Entrance Bar

When Zac and I were in Chicago for more freelance work, I really wanted to go to Safehouse, a spy-themed bar. It was incredible, the food, the drinks, and the experience. Since then we now try to find unique themed or wacky places to go to. In Cincinnati, a friend told me about The Video Archive.

So psyched to try it out, we learned a valuable lesson. Check the hours and notices to see if it’s open, or unexpectedly needed to be closed. Yep, drove all the way and it was closed. So sad. However! We walked down the street in the rain in search of something else, in which we found Comfort Station. Equally as secretetive, we walking through a door labeled Women and the next thing you know there are plants, and velvet couches and booze. If you visit, prepare for unique cocktails.

3. Findlay Market/OTR

Always in a desperate search for the sweet nectar of life (coffee), we ventured to Collective Espresso. We usually go to the location in Northside, however, we wanted to get out of our comfort zone of knowing where to park. We took twenty minutes to find the right spot. It is here that my fiancee reminded me of how to pronounce the word espresso correctly, again. Try it with me, eˈspresō versus my bad habit of saying exˈspresō. I’m sure I’ll get it one of these days.

4. Wendy’s Bridal EXPO

So, I’m getting married. I feel the need to participate in everything that involves organizing a wedding. That includes going to a convention center for everything wedding. Saturday morning Zac, my head bridesmaid Kristin, and myself all went down to see what we can learn from Wendy’s Bridal Expo. It was the morning of, I found out we didn’t really need to go.

We have our venue, my dress, the colours, suits, food, music, and most of the decorations figured out where IT WAS NOT NECESSARY. But I wanted to go anyway. All well, I wasted twenty dollars and felt awkward the whole time someone asked “do you need a caterer?” and I consistently said “no.” Sometimes you gotta go just to make sure you won’t miss anything.

5. Sleep

I’ll be honest. I love to sleep. And I know, you don’t look back on your life and remember all the nights you got to sleep for over eight hours. But sometimes, you need to curl up in your Christmas present and be a log for thirteen or so hours. I’ve always had an issue sleeping (more on this detail later), but from research and my own experience, I’ve learned how to help make it easier. My fiancee got me a Chilla weighted blanket for Christmas, and I gotta say it’s the most magical thing in the world. Even on vacation when you want to do things, never forget to try and catch up on some zzzzs.
